People’s Choice Competition – Complete Results

First, I’d like to thank all of the volunteers in the PCC tent this past weekend. You all did a great job! As a result of your hard work, we served every beer we had available to us. Just shy of 1600 random pairings were judged.

I’d also like to thank all of you that entered beers into the PC competition. That little bit of extra effort it takes to bottle up and deliver your entries for this competition has a huge impact. I can’t believe how much people at Beau’s Oktoberfest love coming into our tent and judging your beers. By far, most of them take it very seriously. I see lots of people discussing what they’re sampling with each other, and consulting the guidelines, before casting their vote. It’s a pleasure to see. Unfortunately we ran out of beer at around 6:30 on Saturday night so we had to shut down early. Hopefully we will get more entries next year.

Finally, a big thank you to Jordan Bamforth from Beau’s for all of his help with logistics. He made sure we were supplied with everything we needed to make the event a success, even though he was being run ragged putting out other fires at the festival.

The complete results can be found here.

Already looking forward to next year’s competition…

Thanks everyone.

Inconsistency in Drop Off Deadline

Hi All,

Just a quick announcement.  It has come about that there is an inconsistency regarding the drop off deadline between this site and the competition/registration website.  This site says the 7th and the other site says the 5th.  We will be extending it to the 7th to make up for any confusion.

So, please be aware that the drop off deadline is MONDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH AT 10PM.  Please have all your submissions in before then.

Thanks and good luck!

Call for Volunteers!

This is a call for volunteers for the Members of Barleyment/Beau’s People’s
Choice Homebrew Competition at the Beau’s Oktoberfest celebrations in
Vankleek Hill on Oct 2nd and 3rd.

The People’s Choice competition is a competition amongst homebrewers from
across the country where attendees of Beau’s Oktoberfest will judge the
homebrew entries. The idea is to promote beer literacy by having
non-homebrewers judge competition-worthy homebrew and learn about different
styles of beer.

As with past years, if you volunteer for even one shift, you will receive a
complementary pass for the entire event. Free bus transportation is also
available between Ottawa and VKH for volunteers.

If you can spare some time to help out, please email admin at comp dot barleyment dot ca and we can provide you with additional information.

Thanks very much.

Bottle Drop Off Update!

Please be aware that from August 28th through the 31st and September 4th through the 7th, the drop off location at Joey’s House, 83 Stevenson Avenue, will not be available.  Please use the following address for those dates:
52 Stevenson Ave, K1Z 6N1
Dropping off at 83 Stevenson can return to normal after those dates.
Once again, please do not use 83 Stevenson as a drop off location on August 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st and September 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th.
52 Stevenson will be the drop off location for those dates.
Thanks and good luck!

It has been decided that multiple entries (no more than 2) are allowed in Category 27 – Historical Beer, so long as they are distinct styles.  For example, an entrant could not submit 2 versions of a Gose but could enter a Graetzer and a Gose.

Good luck!

Registration Opens August 1st!

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for!

Registration for the Homebrew competition will open on August 1st, 2015.  Once registration goes live, we will provide another update with the registration link where you can register and identify all your entries. All participants must register online and submit (mail or hand-deliver) their entries between Aug 1st and Sept 5th, 2015.
As previously mentioned, entries will be judged against the 2015 BJCP Guidelines and you may enter a maximum of one beer per subcategory.
This competition is still a 2 in 1 event: a BJCP competition, and a People’s Choice competition. We’re excited to announce that this year, for the first time, the winner of the People’s Choice Competition will have the opportunity to brew a commercial batch of their winning beer on Beau’s pilot brew system, which will then be sold at the Beau’s retail store.
Remember to keep checking in to the website for developments on the competition and to see some of our new sponsors!  Links to the registration site with be posted on our main site, and I will also post them directly for your convenience.
Good luck!!
